About:  This position provides medical readiness support to the Soldier Resiliency and Readiness Center (SRRC) in coordination with William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) to support soldier mobilizations and demobilizations, as well as to provide secondary support to WBAMC’s Primary Care and other outlying clinics when mission permits.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

Certified Nursing Assistants shall perform the following functions, within the scope of accepted nursing practice. These shall be essentially the same duties as those required of any Army personnel or Government civil service provider of similar experience and in similar duty assignments. Other duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, the following. 

  • Provide age-specific care based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the in service member wards or clinics; specific HCP's orders; the physical, mental and emotional needs of the service member; and the policies and procedures. Assist with the admission and discharge of service members.
  • Perform vital signs check, note deviations and ensure proper documentation. Perform blood pressure measurements and record as prescribed by the policy.
  • Clean and restock procedure and service member rooms with supplies, forms and linen, dispose of trash and soiled linen, supplies, and equipment. Set up examination rooms/spaces. Clean, disinfect and reassemble instruments in accordance with SOP. Package instruments for processing in Central Material Service.
  • Assist HCP with service member examinations. Assist service member to disrobe/dress according to level of assistance and required drape and position service member and chaperone as necessary.
  • Set up and assist HCP in specimen collection, label and document appropriate service member information, prior to transporting specimen to lab for processing. Prepare specimens for laboratory and properly label specimens.
  • Observe service members for distress or changes in condition and report abnormalities to team leader or other senior nursing/medical personnel. Document observations, care given, and service member's response in the medical record and under the supervision of the Physician, PA or NP.
  • Administer or assist with minor, acute, and routine primary care tasks in the in service member setting in accordance with SOPs and training rendered under the supervision of an HCP. Assist with applications of dressings.
  • Perform daily quality control checks on clinic glucose test monitor and under supervision of senior nursing personnel.
  • Recognize and initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations.
  • Document care given. Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the policy. Ensure all documentation and reports are legible and complete.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent General Education Development (GED) certificate, plus a minimum of one year community college or vocational training school.

Certification: Possess a current and unrestricted certification from a certifiable training school of Certified Nursing Assistants.

  • Have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. The American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted. BLS recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times.

You must be on the premises to perform the job. The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift.
