Overview

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is seeking a Radiological Control Technician (RCT) or Health Physicist for the Radiological Protection (RP) Division at Argonne National Laboratory (Argonne) requires Radiation Control Technicians (RCTs) and/or Health Physicists (HP) with recent relevant work experience (Department of Energy, National Laboratory preferred) as staff augmentation.  Work will be performed for Argonne with a planned health physics support assignment supporting multiple areas, including projects with Infrastructure Services (IS), Environment, Safety, and Health (ESH), and Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) directorates. Augmented staff are expected to follow and implement the requirements of 10 CFR 835 and the Argonne Radiation Protection Program.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • Possess physical capability to provide hands-on health physics measurements and monitoring requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in support of FMS projects and the ESHQ Directorate.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation and reports of monitoring activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Work performed will conform to the standards set forth in the Argonne QA program.
  • Work performed will be under the direction of Argonne RPP Management.
  • All work performed will be reviewed and accepted by RPP Managers.

Note: Previous Argonne experience is desired, with preference to individuals who have completed Argonne on-the-job  (OJT) training leading to fully qualified HP tech status, and/or qualified to “task qualified” HP tech status for standard dose rate instruments, contamination survey meters, swipe counting equipment, air monitoring equipment, and other basic detection equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 6 Months experience
  • The technician must possess qualifications demonstrating that they have worked at a DOE facility for at least six months as a senior radiological control technician
  • Completed DOE Core Training Card
  • They may provide equivalency, that is, registration under the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT)
  • Maintaining qualification (DOE Core or NRRPT) is the responsibility of the subcontractor
  • Technician provides, in advance, evidence of medical qualification for use of a respiratory protection device
  • Argonne will provide fit testing for respirators, but the medical certification to wear a respirator will be the responsibility of the subcontractor.
  • Technician shall be current in 40-hour Hazardous Waste Site Operations HAZWOPER and annual 8-hour refresher course
  • Maintaining annual HAZWOPER qualification is the responsibility of the subcontractor

Work Schedule

Contingent workers are expected to work a 40-hour work week during normal business hours. However, to ensure programmatic needs are met, contract employees may be required to work overtime or on a weekend or holiday. The Technical Representative will determine individual work schedules.
