Overview

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for a Scientist II in Richland, WA.

 

This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

Responsible for conducting scientific and/or analytical studies in support of 222-S Laboratory operations and developing conventional scientific solutions to technical task activities and objectives. Perform a variety of scientific duties including but not limited to: waste and environmental sampling/analysis, process control support and data quality, Vadose zone characterization, interim and final corrective actions for soils, performing and/or reviewing scientific calculations/analyses, preparing specifications, reports and data tables. Collaborate with other technical staff to devise new approaches to scientific problems. Develop technical plans and reports, including integration with DOE-RL and other site contractors, obtain customer and stakeholder acceptance. May serve as a lead by directing the analytical activities of Technicians.

  • Under minimal supervision, incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning where only general objectives are stated.
  • Coordinate various phases of the activity and perform development work in assigned field. May function as group leader on project or departmental task assignments.
  • Define specific problems based on general problem information from management and customers. Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments, and sections in focuses areas to solve problems.
  • Ensure compliance with technical requirements of assigned work, proper utilization and training of personnel operating under one's technical guidance, and compliance with approved schedules and staffing estimates. Ensures appropriate technical performance of the end product developed and designed to resolve the original problem.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other scientific, logistics, financial and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Perform complex conceptual developmental and planning functions for major programs.
  • Demonstrates interpolative thinking, utilizes advanced techniques, modifications, or extensions to practiced theories, and is generally seasoned technically.
  • Prepare and deliver and submit technical papers and perform scientific studies. Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, and management.
  • Conduct site/area visits, experimental investigations and analyze scientific problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in scientific discipline and 10 years directly related experience or
  • Master's Degree (MS) in scientific discipline and 8 years directly related experience or
  • PhD in scientific discipline and 6 years directly related experience.

Compensation

Grade 20: $131,888 - $166,263

 

The grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on business needs and the candidate's education, training, and/or relevant experience.
